Growing up!

Since we have moved into our trailer while our house is being rebuilt we haven’t had any television for the kids to watch. Well, we have a t.v., but no cable or satellite to watch shows on. Since they don’t have any t.v.to watch and be board throughout the day,  the kids have been outside playing more and doing more constructive things with their lives. The other day Sethy decided that he wanted to ride his bike but without the training wheels. I really thought that he would have training wheels on his bike until he was 13 years old. Boys like Sethy don’t have the balance that most kids have so I was little weary at first but in amazement at the same time.

We were all sitting around talking when Sethy laid his bike down and went to the tool box for some tools. He grabbed a couple of wrenches and went to work on his bike. “whatch ya doin Sethy?” I asked. “I’m taking off my tranin’ wheels” he replied. “Oh, okay! Do you need any help?” I asked, “No! I got it!” he replied back. “Oh, okay then”

After Sethy took off the training wheels to his bike, we all encouraged him to hop onto his bike and ride it. That’s when his fear stepped in and he asked for help. Kevin and Jon jumped up to help him ride  his bike on the pavement. He fell a couple of times, then came back in to put the training wheels back on his bike. We convinced him that he just needed more practice and once the wheels were off they were not to go back on the bike. He is almost 5 years old so it was time.

A week later the boy is obsessed with riding his bike. He is on it non stop. We have to make him stop to eat and drink water as his little face gets really red and his head gets sweaty. Once he’s cooled off, back onto the bike he goes. The scary thing is he has no fear and is already doing things on the bike that will surely land him into the E.R.

One of my favorite things about having children is watching them reach these little milestones to becoming a bigger kid then onto adulthood. It is such a rewarding experience to be a part of their lives.
